Premium Leather Vs Standard Leather
We often get inquiries regarding the distinctions between our premium leather and standard leather offerings. To help you better understand, here is a concise breakdown of each type.
Premium Leather
Our premium leather is comparable to full-grain leather, which represents the highest-quality layer of cowhide. This outermost layer undergoes a specialized treatment to remove surface imperfections, resulting in a consistent and refined texture. As the most robust part of the hide, premium leather is known for its superior durability and enhanced water resistance. It feels soft and supple, developing a rich patina and natural character over time with use.
Standard Leather
Standard leather is crafted from the fibrous lower layers of the hide, which remain after the full-grain has been separated. In the splitting process, the top-grain and the underlying drop split are divided. The drop split may be further separated into thinner layers—middle and flesh splits—depending on the thickness of the original hide. These split layers are treated with an artificial coating and embossed with a grain pattern to mimic the appearance of natural leather. While standard leather shares similar thickness with premium leather, it is less pliable, lacks the strength of the topmost layers, and tends to wear out more quickly.
In summary, while both leather types offer their own set of benefits, premium leather is unmatched in durability, comfort, and the ability to age gracefully, making it a preferred choice for those seeking long-lasting quality.
